Love the Warm Weather

| Comments

Glorious weather, how can you not love it! I was in San Francisco last week. Chicago was beautiful this past weekend, i.e. t-shirt weather. And now I’m in Atlanta with cool 70-degree weather.

On another note, I’m posting soley for an alternative purpose…to see how my stylesheets get layed out. Big plans, I’ve got, just not for this site… :)

Still need to post more - maybe I’ll post my summaries from RSA…

Dreams

| Comments

I just had some really weird dreams. The effect of New Orleans cuisine on a post-dinner nap.

It started out with me in some city. I recall getting a ride of some sort on a sleigh or something. It landed and I was walking around for a bit. Then these ships started flying into town - dual optimus primes and weird stuff like that. So I started running out of town.

Somebody was following me, who eventually turned into one of my bosses. He told me that I need some stress relief training. A bunch of my co-workers who were around me in some sort of cage structures (anger-management relief or some such…) readily agreed. So off I went to find some place to sleep, but all the beds and hammocks were already occupied. Some by people, other by little babies. I eventually found a couch that wasn’t and lay down.

The next part of the dream I woke up and went to work for an Uncle - it was a different office building, though, and one of his employees welcomed me and started talking to me. It remains a little blurry at that point, but the next thing I can remember is going upstairs and somebody found me bleeding. Then they realized I was bleeding from my mouth and things really started to get weird. They acted as if something was really wrong with me, and went to get towels, etc. I could see other people laughing or being shocked in the next room, one of which I remember being my co-worker. My forefinger and thumb were covered in blood, and it was on the floor. There was also a stupid little dog trying to get around me and downstairs. Somebody finally came and put a single stitch through my lower lip and I think I woke up soon after that.

Despite the extremely abnormal nature of that one, I love dreaming. It’s so surreal and almost like an exercise for my brain.

Sleep Patterns

| Comments

My sleep patterns tend to vary on a week-to-week basis. For example, I’m in San Francisco this week at the RSA Conference (woot) and I’ve taken to just walking over to the bed and collapsing on it - cloths, contacts, and all. I think this is due to the fact that I’ve been trying to stay up late writing summaries of the con (which I hope to post on here if I can figure out how to extract html from notes emails…).

I don’t mind the odd sleeping patterns, though - if you need sleep, just lay down. Right?

Lazy Bum

| Comments

Lazy lazy lazy! I can’t believe how little I’ve blogged lately. I think I’ve just been bogged down with work. No, not bogged down…motivated perhaps. Some things have changed and now I get to do even more of what I want to, so I find myself going into work earlier and leaving work later, much to the chagrin of S. There’s so much that needs to be done, but not nearly enough time. More than there used to be, however.

I recently got to visit with another long lost cuz that I hadn’t seen in a while when I was in IN for work. It was good to sit down and chill for a bit as I don’t get to see too much family out here in the midwest. I also got passed by two car-loads of NUNS on my way back home - see Ma, I don’t drive too fast. But really, what cop would give a bunch of nuns in their habits a ticket…

Finally - once again, to the befuddlement of myself, I could not get something to work all yesterday. I came in this morning, did the exact same process…and it worked exactly like it was supposed to. So much for Tuesday being useful…

But now, downstairs to grab a muffin and tasty frappucino and then back to configuring the new PIX. mmm

Always the Simple Answer

| Comments

I hate when I do stupid things. Like tonight, I got a new case for an old computer and moved everything over to it. Unfortunately, it didn’t work when I plugged in the power supply and flicked the switch in the back. After about an hour of debugging, I had the bright idea to push the little power button in the front. Voila, it worked! sigh I must be getting old…and here I thought I had fried the mobo while installing it on a carpeted surface. How silly of me!

I Hate MSN Messenger

| Comments

MSN Messenger wouldn’t be so bad if it didn’t feel the need to ingrain itself in every other Microsoft communications program, i.e. Outlook and Outlook Express. Scratch that - It wouldn’t be so bad if it didn’t require hacking the registry and unknown system config files to remove or even to just not start up when Outlook Express starts up. Alas, one must set this registry key if one does not want MSN Messenger to start when Outlook Express starts:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Outlook Express\Hide Messenger=2 (REG_DWORD)
I didn’t want it to not run at all, so I didn’t set some other registry keys that would prevent that or uninstall it completely. I just didn’t want it to run when Outlook Express ran…imagine that!

Ohio in One Day

I have to go to Ohio tomorrow. More details later, but let’s just say I wasn’t even sure I was going until about 5:30 this evening.

Sic

I’ve always known what [sic] stands for, but never knew the true defition. From dictionary.com:

Thus; so. Used to indicate that a quoted passage, especially one containing an error or unconventional spelling, has been retained in its original form or written intentionally.
Makes perfect sence[sic].

Restaurant : Shiroi Hana

| Comments

I believe I’ve never left a review of Shiroi Hana on the blog. This is the place I frequent the most in my newfound love for sushi. My first date with S was to a sushi joint and ever since then, we have it about twice a month. Shiroi Hana is just down the street from me at 3242 N. Clark St. I usually get the spicy tuna roll, although the dragon roll does look really cool. And then I go with a random assortment of sushi.

Last night while eating there with S and a few friends (one a sushi virgin!), we ordered 8 rolls and 37 pieces of sushi. It was the most sushi I’ve ever seen in one place. It was all pretty good though - even the sushi virgin enjoyed it.

At one point, I dropped some rice onto my plate. Unfortunately, part of the wasabi ball that I had put on the plate so I didn’t have to double-dip stuck to the rice. I picked up the rice and popped it into my mouth and the next thing I felt was the feeling of some sort of paste against my tongue. Wayyyyy too much wasabi if you can feel that. My eyes teared up and I coughed a few times, but I made it out without vomiting (ala Jackass The Movie).

I do recommend Shiroi Hana though - not too expensive and very tasty sushi. Make sure to order a cup of the green tea.
