Duct Up!

| Comments

Well - has everybody stocked up on your Duct Tape so you can hermetically seal your home?? Somehow, I don’t think duct tape and plastic sheets will be much help, especially considering that most people can’t even keep their kids under control today.

…ok…so that was a horrible comparison, I realize, but I couldn’t come up with something better off the top of my head. I think I’ll go to bed before I make any more foolish statements.

So You Think Unix Permissions Are Tough?

| Comments

So you think remembering which place is read and which place is write and what value each reprents when it comes to ‘chmod 740’ unix permissions is tough? Then check this out:

Oracle audit actions mapping: ———SS—– Each dash (-) or letter that you see above is a placeholder. The actions are as follows: alter, audit, comment, delete, grant, index, insert, lock, rename, select, update, references, execute, create, read, and write. The auditing actions are “whenever successful/unsuccessful.” Phew - intense!

Rent Liechtenstein

| Comments

They’re putting price tags on anything these days! Liechtenstein is putting itself up for rent to try to attract tourism. Maybe I should rent out my room to people when I’m not home - that could be rather profitable, but messy if somebody refused to move back out every week. ;)

Motivation at All the Wrong Times

| Comments

Why is it that I get motivated at all the wrong times? While I can’t seem to muster any motivation at all for an entire weekend, I suddenly acquire a geat deal of motivation at 11:00 pm on a Sunday night! I believe I am a nocturnal being and that I should sleep during the day and work at night. My employer will probably think otherwise…

How to Start the Day Off Right

A can of Code Red and a can of Red Bull - The Cortesi special, Code Red Bull! That and the cold shower I had this morning should keep me fired up until at least the early afternoon, no?

Variable Service

| Comments

Being the anal person that I am about my car these days, I’ve been getting it washed every now and then this winter. I go to a place called down the street from me. What you do is pay for the touch free wash, and there are about 4 or 5 guys waiting to dry your car when you come out. Depending on the hour of the day, the service I receive varies widely. For example:

  • The first time I go I give them a sizeable tip - it’s cold out and I got the full treatment for my car. They dry my car off, and that’s it.
  • The second time I go, I only give them half what I did the first time. The guy I give the tip to yells “Doors, doors” to the other guys. The open up my doors and dry off the inside of the door. Half the tip…twice the service?
  • Other times I’ve gone, I’ve given the same tip and not received any door drying.
  • The most recent time I went, I gave them the normal tip. For some reason, they started cleaning my tires..and my doors! For that extra service, I drop another tip and the guy says to me “Hold on, I need to get something special for your tires.” So they run inside and grab some black polish for the tires. Sweet…but still variable service. Before I leave, the guy opens my door and says “She’s just like new.” Hehe

In any case, I don’t know what the different is that causes the oddities in service. Saturday evening at 5:00pm is when my latest “like new” service was, so I’ll have to try that time again and see what happens.

Lazy Days

Another lazy day full of aspirations, but what I have really accomplished? Nothing, really. Been working on the dev site, but nothing really noticeable yet. I also finished Medal of Honor - w00t!

Ah well…

Keeping Track of Blogs

| Comments

Ever since I started reading more blogs, I’ve found it a pain keeping up with new posts. Thus, Syndirella! Syndirella allows me to track anything with an RSS feed. In addition, it’s got a scraping feature that still allows me to monitor silly sites that don’t have an RSS feed. It’s still in development limbo, but it’s quite stable and I’ve been using it just fine for a few weeks now.

Degrading Win2K

| Comments

One time, a long, long time ago I had disc with both Win2K and NT4 on it. The end result was Win2K with IE2 installed on it. I just found that screenshot in my archives. Not too shabby!
